Welcome Home was set up as a registered charity in 1990 to raise funds for Fr. Peter McVerry to enable him to provide accommodation and services for young homeless people in Dublin. All money raised by Welcome Home is used to support the work of what is now called The Peter McVerry Trust.
Funds are raised from a number of organised events throughout the year. These annual events are the main sources of funds for the charity. The original fundraising event was The Wexford Cycle which started in 1990 and celebrated 21 years in existence in 2010. The Cycle remains the most popular event on the Welcome Home calendar and is, by far, the biggest fundraiser. The Welcome Home Golf Classic is the second oldest and second biggest event and will soon be celebrating 21 years in existence. It enjoys consistent and generous support from the corporate market.
Recent events added to our calendar are The Midsummer Walk in June and The Charity Lunch in March. Both started in 2008 and are enjoying increasing support and, importantly, are raising much-needed funds for Welcome Home.
Welcome Home is also one of Leinster Rugby’s official charities and has been for six years now. This allows us to generate funds from a number of initiatives with Leinster Rugby and also to create a greater awareness of Welcome Home fundraising activities amongst Leinster supporters.
Welcome Home also receives donations, many of which are made online via our website.
As Peter McVerry has often said “the accommodation and services provided by The Peter McVerry Trust to young homeless people in Dublin might not be in existence today had it not been for the financial support from Welcome Home throughout the years.”
