Wexford Cycle 2011

The Wexford Cycle 2011 took place on Saturday, 24th September on a beautiful sunny day. There was a southerly wind which didn’t help but cyclists seemed to enjoy the day nonetheless. Thank you to all our cyclists for making this an enjoyable day for organisers and support crew. 386 cyclists took to the road at 8am with 380 making it to Wexford.

Welcome Home & Leinster Rugby

Welcome Home is delighted to be nominated again as one of Leinster Rugby’s official charities for the coming season. This is a valued partnership for Welcome Home, to be linked with a highly successful rugby franchise such as Leinster, now considered one of the premier rugby franchises in Europe. The partnership has previously allowed Welcome Home to raise funds directly from joint initiatives and also to raise the charity’s profile among Leinster supporters and beyond. Welcome Home would like to thank Leinster Rugby for nominating the charity again and for their continued support for the work, therefore, of the Peter McVerry Trust with young homeless people in Dublin. We would also like to wish Leinster good luck for the 2011/12 season.

Midsummer Walk – 12th June

Our Midsummer Walk took place last Sunday, 12th June, in Powerscourt Demesne in Enniskerry. The weather was…….wet, prompting one wag to declare “I swam the Walk”. We were delighted that forty walkers braved the rain to complete the 10k route. We would like to thank them for their bravery, support and fundraising. As Peter McVerry said, the poor summer weather would give everyone an appreciation of the problems encountered by homeless people.

Sincere thanks to Fitzers Catering who provided a fantastic barbecue afterwards which was much appreciated by the forty walkers and by those who were helping wiith the event on the day.

Thanks also to Powerscourt for allowing us use their facilities and The River Walk which really is a lovely route (in normal weather conditions).

Midsummer Walk – 12th June

Our Midsummer Walk takes place on Sunday, 12th June at 11am. Online registration is open but closes on Friday, 10th June. We would appreciate if intending walkers register online in advance as this will give us a good indication of numbers for the barbecue we are providing to all walkers afterwards.

This is a fundraising Walk suitable for all the family. We ask walkers to pay a registration fee and raise further money in sponsorship. We do not ask for sponsorship money from children. We provide a barbecue afterwards to all pre-registered walkers. Check out our Walk page on our site for further details. We can send out Sponsorship Cards and A4 posters when you register.

Golf Classic 2011

Our annual Golf Classic took place last Friday at Milltown Golf Club on a day when golfers encountered beautiful sunshine, warm, cool, heavy rain, hailstones and thunder and lightning. The outing was a great success with 38 teams taking part and 160 people for Dinner. 21 teams played in the 8am shotgun start and probably got the best of the weather. 17 teams played in the afternoon from 1.30pn to 4.10pm. The evening was, again, a great social success and was also a great fundraising occasion with people generously supporting the auction and raffle.

The winning team was Matheson Ormsby Prentice on 87 points with last year’s winners, Tilman Asset Management, just beating John Gleeson’s team for second place. Both had 86 points but Tilman Asset Management prevailed on the back nine score. All results will be posted on the site.

The Golf Committee would like to sincerely thank all those who contributed to the success of the day, in whatever way, and hope that they will join us again at Milltown GC next May.

Golf Classic 2011

The Welcome Home Golf Classic takes place this coming Friday, 13th May, at Milltown Golf Club. Our afternoon timesheet is sold out while our morning shotgun start at 8am has room for one or two more teams. Currently we have 21 teams in the shotgun. This is a fantastic achievement and we really appreciate the support from all our teams. Our tee boxes are all sponsored so thanks to all those corporates and individuals have have taken out sponsorship.

While we will have approximately 150 people to Dinner in Milltown there are still place available for what is always a very enjoyable evening. The Golf Classic is our second longest running event and our second biggest in terms of fundraising.

We hope all our teams have a great day in the battle for the coveted Welcome Home Trophy.
