Charity Cycle – Saturday, 22nd September

The Wexford Cycle is a firm favourite in the calendar of Welcome Home supporters – it was the first-ever Welcome Home event in 1990 and last year celebrated 21 years in existence. It is the biggest event by far for Welcome Home in terms of participants and money raised. It has a core support every year with many corporate groups also taking part. The return of so many regular cyclists and groups each year is testimony to their support for the invaluable work of The Peter McVerry Trust and to the organisation of the event. Unbelievably, one cyclist has completed all 21 Cycles.

Midsummer Walk – Sunday, 17th June

A relatively new event on the Welcome Home calendar, the Midsummer Walk was introduced in 2008 with a 10k walk. The route was from The Peoples Park in Dun Laoghaire to Sandymount Green and was followed by a barbecue in O’Reillys Pub in Sandymount. 40 people took part in the first Walk.

In 2009 and 2010 the Walk took place over a 10km route in The Phoenix Park with just over 100 participants each year. Our hope is to keep growing the Walk over the coming years in a similar fashion to the Cycle.

Since the first Lunch took place it has been decided to host the Lunch every second year, more as a friend-raiser than a fund-raiser, and always on the Friday of an RBS Six Nations home game in Dublin.

The 2009 Charity Lunch took place in Fire Restaurant at The Mansion House with 175 people attending.
